How to Make a Custom Swimsuit
After looking through the summer swimsuit lineup in the
fashion
magazines
, you still haven't come across a swimsuit you want to wear. Some are close, but nothing is just right. Solve the problem by making your own custom swimsuit with a few simple tricks. You don't even have to have a lot of sewing talent.
Step
1
Visit a fabric store to find the ideal sewing pattern for your suit and the perfect fabric for you. You'll follow a pre-made pattern, but you can custom design it with color choices and small detailing.
Step
2
Look closely at the material, making sure there are no defects and that you have the right amount of stretch according to your pattern. Ask a sales person for help if you are unsure.
Step
3
Find the fabric used for lining swimsuits--it's generally found right next to swimsuit fabric. Make sure the lining is close to the color of your suit and has the same stretch as the material you chose for your suit.
Step
4
Use elastic and thread that are durable and can hold up to the bite of chlorine. Lay out your pattern and follow directions.
Step
5
After cutting and piecing together with pins and make loose basting stitches, try the suit on, inside out. Readjust with pins until you are comfortable with the feel and look of the suit.
Step
6
Add your own personality as you customize further and make designs with sequins or braided ties where normal straps are suggested.
